Guess who got another friend to make a blog! There’s already a post up and an RSS feed, so feel free to check it out!

This blog exists because I dragged a different friend of mine, skyber, into blogging a few months back. He uses his blog very irregularly, but when he’d make posts he’d post it to a shared server we’re all in, prompting others to say it looks neat and wonder how to set such a thing up. A few weeks ago, one of said friends hit me up, saying he really needed an outlet to both write about his day-to-day activities and post his art. His art is really cool, btw, like forreal:

Art by the aformentioned friend. A stylized fireman pointing at the viewer, with some of his limbs detached from their sockets ala Rayman.

He made the design for the page and I got on the coding aspect. It was different than what I was used to but it was fun, and a few minutes ago we set it live. We got on a voice chat to buff out a few minor issues, and several friends decided to join and see what we were blabbering about. One of them (who is right now getting a degree in design) offered to redesign the newly created website, saying it looks like an early 2000s webpage, and the rest started asking me if they too could run their own blog.

It might be a bit of a silly interaction, but it’s nice to have these sort of communal interactions, reminding you that people love to create and share in creation just for the sake of it. People like having neat things of their own just to show, and they love making other people’s stuff better. They like having control, not necessarily out of distrust of larger corporations, but because it lets them leave their own personal mark on their corner of the internet. With how most websites are homogonizing their user experiences to a single, modern, slick UI across the entire web, even having a website that is poorly designed is exciting because it stands out amongst the crowd.

It’s nice helping other people out, yknow? I’m the tech guy in our friend group, (gotta use that degree somehow, right? not like I’m getting a job in this economy with it,) so I get to feel like the Wonderous Wizard who uses spells and runes to get a minecraft server going. I always try to get my friends to make their own cool stuff with computers, but obviously it’s not always feasible (none of these guys are ever learning docker), so when it is able to happen, it’s always a joy.

I don’t really have a point to make with this, it was just a nice experience I wanted to share. Thanks for readin’ :) .
