Ava's Blog Questions

I’ve been tagged in a tag game! Not something I expected to happen, honestly. Despite the fact I’ve already been tagged in various tag games on tumblr, I still walk around with a little GoobTM creature in my head telling me other people do not care for me and/or remember that I exist. Seeing visible proof that I am not a passing fart in other people’s skulls is both shocking and a delight.

A scene from the movie Meet the Robinsons. A short, visibly tired child walks in a hallway with a colorful binder, looking miserable. Two other children ask him 'Hey Goob, what's up? Cool binder!' and 'Hey Goob, wanna come over to my house today?' with cheery expressions. The child narrates: 'They all hated me.'

Still, I am both flattered and appreciative that xandra remembered I exist and tossed this blog-question game over to me, so time to be even more self-centered than usual and answer 8 questions about this blog and my blogging habits, originally asked by ava.

Also, to get it out of the way early - I’ll tag four friends of mine that I’m trying to force to blog more, being skyber, finel, rura, and maya. “Isn’t this much more fitting for people who regularly blog rather than people who rarely blog,” you may ask? I don’t care. I will force these fuckers to post if it kills me! Anywho, on with the show!

1. Why did you make a blog in the first place?

Because I am a certified yapper. I ramble to my friends for paragraphs upon paragraphs and often warn new people who meet me that unless actively stopped, I will not stop yapping. I have a lot of thoughts and I don’t always have A Specific Victim in my DMs who I am willing to blast with 8 paragraphs of nightmares, and other times I have six victims I want to simultaneously blast with 8 paragraphs of nightmares. In both cases a blog is super useful: I type it all up, push to live, and then I get to choose which friends to toss it at without having to copy and paste it all between discord chatlogs.

Type once, annoy dozens of times. That’s what I call efficiency, baby.

2. Why did you choose bearblog?

I saw it linked on my Hacker News RSS during a night shift at work (where I was very much not working) and decided to open it on a whim.

Since then I’ve moved to a blog I run on my own, which I’ll go into in the next question:

3. Have you blogged on other platforms before?

I am blogging on other platforms right now! After a while on Bearblog I decided I wanted to stretch my wings both in what I could do in the blog and as practice for my coding skills. So, I took the static site generator I use to run an RP project’s website, Bridgetown (an enhanced fork of Jekyll), and started writing. Also, I annoyed one of the aformentioned friends1 into making a design for the blog, because me and “making things look good” go like coca cola and a pack of mentos.

4. Do you write your posts directly in the editor or in another software?

I write my blogposts on visual studio code as markdown files (to the non-tech people: I write them with the same formatting as discord/reddit) and shoot them live with git.

5. When do you most feel inspired to write?

All day. Every day. Constantly. If it were my way I’d pull up my laptop in extremely inappropriate situations and start typing.

If anything the real question is why don’t I blog as much as I want to, and primarily it’s because I feel like it’s “inappropriate” for me to do so when I have other obligations on the line, which I so often do. I have to finish and present an entire videogame in 5 days and it looks like dogshit and misses about 20 levels. The only reason I feel justified to respond right now is because my shower’s heater takes 30 min to heat up, so I have an excuse to do this.

6. Do you publish immediately after writing or-

SLAM THAT FUCKING “COMMIT AND PUSH” BUTTON RIGHT AFTER FINISHING. WE DO NOT BELIEVE IN SECOND DRAFTS IN THIS HOUSE.

7. Your favorite post on your blog?

Gotta be the first post I ever made (typed up while I was super sleep deprived).

8. Any future plans for your blog? Maybe a redesign, changing the tag system, etc.?

Honestly, not much. I like the simplicity of the current setup I have going on. Maybe to add a comment section, but that feels like it would take a lot of effort for not that much gain. Probably to start a “game mechanic wiki” so I can try to better analyze different aspects of games in my free time.

And those are the questions. I don’t really have a way to send this off, so if you read this and wanna answer the questions tooL just do it! Even if you weren’t tagged, consider this as my tagging of you, specifically.

Also, email me if you do. I’d love to read it :)
